The Park Service reports the 24,000-acre Bear Creek fire on the north end of the park came within three miles of the historic Roosevelt Cabin. Alaska Fire Service smokejumpers were flown in Saturday and two more are arriving today to protect the cabin.

Wildfires have also left a smoky haze over Fairbanks, and the Alaska Department of Environment Conservation issued an air quality advisory for the Interior.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports 58 fires are active statewide. The largest is the 24,000-acre Bear Creek fire north of Denali Park.
