Police say a former employee of an Anchorage-based environmental and conservation group has stolen $100,000 from the nonprofit.

Travis Robinson, 36, is accused of using company credit cards, company accounts and false reimbursements to steal from the Alaska Marine Conservation Council.

Police say the theft took place over several months. All of the group's paid employees had to take a furlough as a result of the crimes, police said. Some workers lost their jobs.

Launched in 1994, the nonprofit works to protect the health of Alaska marine ecosystems.

Robinson is charged with theft, scheme to defraud, fraudulent use of an access device and tampering with evidence. Police describe him as 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.

Police are asking anyone who knows anything to call 786-8900 or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP, or to submit an anonymous tip at www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
