Jewel, 35, performs using just her first name. She lived in Alaska as a child and teenager, often performing with her parents, Atz and Nedra Kilcher. She had left the state when she was discovered by a talent agent at a coffeehouse in Pacific Beach, Calif., in 1993. Her first CD, "Pieces of You," was released two years later and became a hit. She is said to have sold 27 million albums worldwide.
Last year she married rodeo star Ty Murray. The couple was featured this past spring on the television show "Dancing with the Stars." Jewel was injured before the competition began but Murray made it into the semifinals before being eliminated.
