Unalaska police Sgt. Matt Betzen says officers were sent to a clinic last week after 25-year-old Jason Tungul arrived with bullet wounds. Tungul told investigators he did not know the person who had shot him, but then changed his story and said Daniel Cortez had shot him a dispute over drugs.
When police went to arrest Cortez, they found him on the floor with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The Dutch Harbor Island Fisherman reported Thursday that the 25-year-old died after being flown to Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Tungul was also taken to the Anchorage hospital but his condition is unknown. A hospital spokeswoman says he is not listed in the patient directory, and there was no answer Thursday at a phone number listed under Tungul's name.
