Will flute for food

Anchorage-born flutist Tabatha Easley, now playing professionally and teaching at Virginia Commonwealth University, will return to her hometown for a recital at 4 p.m. on Sunday at First Congregational Church, 2610 E. Northern Lights Blvd. Easley will perform music by Bartok, Hindemith and C.P.E. Bach, among others, and she will be joined by two of her former teachers, Corinne McVee and Sharon Nowak, along with the redoubtable Laura Koenig and Janet Stiles. Admission will be by food -- that is to say, either canned goods or a cash donation for the Food Bank of Alaska.

Bathos at Bear fest

Just in time for the Bear Paw Festival, the Alaska Fine Arts Academy presents "Evil Escapades in Eagle River." Described as "a melodrama of tragic proportions," Tim Kelly's script bubbles with all the vivid stock characters -- a hapless hero, wily villain, resourceful heroine -- with goofball silliness, tunes and plenty of audience interaction. Sisters at sea

The next chapter in the "Nunsense" series, "Meshuggah-Nuns," has the women on an Alaska cruise when the whole cast of "Fiddler on the Roof" gets sick -- except the Tevye. The sisters come to the rescue with mangled lyrics, bungled magic acts and humor bordering on the sacrilegious. Krista Schwarting directs a cast featuring Scarlet Kittylee Boudreaux, Erin Peterson, Jessica Bowman, Erika Johnson and, as the guy who plays Tevye, John Fraser.
