The center said it will be staffed from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week and rely on alarms overnight to call in staff to respond to volcanic activity.

The AVO says conditions at Mount Redoubt could change rapidly. The lava dome in the carter could collapse with little warning and shoot ash clouds to aircraft flight levels or send hot mudflows into the Drift River valley.
