Who's up / Who's down

(07/18/09 19:12:35)

UP -- Sarah Palin: She's everywhere! She's everywhere! Dillingham, Kotzebue, McGrath, Unalakleet! Uh, gov, what was that resignation day talk about lame ducks flying all over on the state's dime?

UP -- Alaska Railroad: Spencer Glacier whistle stop delights travelers, makes money. Rail to trail tracks just fine.

EVEN - Andree McLeod: Gov. Sarah's gadfly files fifth ethics complaint. What will she do for entertainment when Palin works the private side of celebrity?

DOWN -- Moose Dropping Festival: Talkeetna benefit, once genteel and family friendly, draws a thuggish crowd. That ain't no way to have fun.

DOWN -- Tourism: Visitors are fewer and they're spending less. Remember, welcome guests, that the money you spend on vacation doesn't really count. And we'd sure like to count more ...

EVEN -- Gas pipeline: Within Alaska, news is good. But competitors grow stronger in the wider world. Any way to accelerate that open season?

UP -- Arctic coast: Big, black blob in the sea is neither spilled oil nor sea beast. Just algae, Jack. That's a relief.

UP -- Anchorage anglers: Creeks Ship and Bird are close, cool and turning silver. Ladies and gentlemen, pull on your waders.

UP -- Alaska dipnetters: Reds return to the mouth of the Kenai. Net your limit, but spare the dunes.

DOWN -- Alaska Aces: Former captain and coach Keith McCambridge heads home to Manitoba and the AHL. He'll be missed.
