Get rich in Caribou Creek: Park at the trailhead at Mile 104 and hike down the steep trail to the creek where recreational gold panning is allowed. Explore Matanuska Glacier: If you haven't done it, you should. If you have, go back because the scenery is always changing. Access through Glacier Park is $15 for adults, with discounts for seniors, military personnel and children. Mica Guides and NOVA offer guided tours for $45 and up.
Scope for Dall sheep: There's a reason it's called Sheep Mountain. Bring your binoculars and stop in a pull-out along the highway. The Dall sheep reserve begins at Mile 107 of the Glenn Highway, on the north side of the road.
