(07/27/09 22:35:49)

Pilots vs. Bucs, 7 p.m., Mulcahy Stadium

AROUND THE HORN

-- Mayor's Cup: Drew Heid hit a solo home run in the third inning to give the Anchorage Glacier Pilots a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning of a game delayed by steady rainfall. It's expected to be finished before tonight's second game of the Mayor's Cup series between the two Anchorage clubs that kicks off the final week of the regular season. Monday was the opener of the 20th Mayor's Cup series. Coming in, the Pilots have won 12 Cups and the Bucs seven -- a series that neither team has ever swept. Both teams have won the Mayor's Cup three years in a row, the Bucs from 2003-05 and the Pilots from 2006-08.

-- Miners 12, Goldpanners 3: The Mat-Su Miners scored 9 runs in the fifth inning and cruised to an easy 12-3 victory over the Fairbanks Goldpanners to boost their lead in the Alaska Baseball League to three games. Second baseman Jonathan Johnson had a double, scored four runs and stole a base.
