AROUND THE HORN

-- The Mat-Su Miners clinched the ABL by shutting out the short-handed Glacier Pilots, who had to put general manager Jon Dyson at second base. The win gives the Miners a three-game lead over the Bucs with three games remaining and assures the team of their third title in six years. Even if the Miners lose all of their remaining games and the Bucs win all of theirs, the Miners will win the head-to-head tiebreaker because they're 5-3 in eight games against the Bucs with one remaining.

All but two Mat-Su runs were unearned thanks to six Pilot errors. The Pilots went through seven pitchers, who gave up a combined six hits but walked 10 batters. Nick Cox scored three times to lead the Miners.

-- The Bucs rolled to a 9-1 lead over the Peninsula Oilers in Kenai, but rain suspended the game after six innings. It will be resumed tonight at 6 prior to a regularly scheduled game between the teams. Austin Barnes blasted a three-run homer in the third inning to help the Bucs open up a big lead.

-- A doubleheader in Fairbanks between the Goldpanners and the aptly named AIA Fire was postponed because of heavy smoke from forest fires.
