AIA: vs. Miners, 7 p.m., Mulcahy Stadium
AROUND THE HORN
-- The Peninsula Oilers came close to overcoming the Anchorage Glacier Pilots' five-run lead, but fell 5-4 Saturday at Mulchay Stadium. The Oilers registered three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Ricky Rossman finished with two runs and three hits for the Pilots, while teammate Josh Meagher managed one hit, a double, and one RBI.
-- The Bucs broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the seventh inning to beat the Miners 4-2. Mat-Su was hurt by three walks issued that inning, including one with the bases-loaded that accounted for the game's first run. The next batter up, Chris Matulis, ripped a double that drove in two runs.
-- Greg Davis earned the win when the Fairbanks Goldpanners defeated the Athletes in Action 8-2. The Panners recorded 13 hits and two errors while AIA registered eight hits and two errors.
-- The Pilots' Drew Heid, who will be a senior at Gonzaga University, earned the ABL's Player of the Year and Silver Slugger awards, and was named to the All Star Team as an outfielder.
-- Action continues today and Monday in the Scouts Showcase Tournament at Mulcahy Stadium, which has attracted about a dozen Major League Baseball scouts who are here to check out this summer's batch of ABL players.
