Fire destroys vehicle on Glenn as occupants escape injury

A vehicle was destroyed in a fire Saturday afternoon on a shoulder of the Glenn Highway near Eagle River, according to the Anchorage Fire Department. No one was hurt in the fire, according to fire department spokesman Soren Threadgill.

He said the driver -- a woman who had two kids with her -- noticed smoke and pulled over to the side of the road. A good Samaritan tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, but it was too late, according to Threadgill.

The fire department was called to put out the fire, just south of Hiland Road, at about 4 p.m., he said. Anchorage Police helped divert traffic away from the burning vehicle.
