About 150 soldiers came back Monday morning.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported that Col. Edward Daly, commander of the United States Army Alaska, let the soldiers be reunited with their families as soon as possible.
After the soldiers marched in formation into a hangar, he dismissed them with a simple, "Be safe, fall out."
The advance group of brigade members will make preparations for the return over the next six weeks of the remaining 4,000 soldiers from the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat, 25th Infantry.
