Link: KTNA Pete Dana, a colorful former resident of Talkeetna who created the "Moose Drop" game -- precursor to the town's Moose Dropping Festival -- as a fundraiser for the Talkeetna Historical Society, has died in Australia, where he had lived for years and was known as musician Peter "Daddy Cool" Olson. Dana delivered the mail in Talkeetna in the '60s and '70s and was a trapper and cabdriver. In an interview last year during a return to Talkeetna, Dana claimed credit for the original and now much-photographed "Welcome to Beautiful Downtown Talkeetna" sign at the entrance to town. KTNA's audio remembrance of Dana includes samples of his music and an interview. See "Daddy Cool" perform on YouTube.
