(08/19/09 09:27:43)

Link: 49 Writers blog This blog for and about Alaska writers received entries from around the world for its first Ode to a Dead Salmon contest -- organizers were hoping for "bad" prose and poetry in the style of entries in the infamous Bulwer-Lytton bad-fiction contest. The blog is asking readers to vote for the winner from among the finalists: "Oh Dear Deceased Chum," "Why as a Mighty Salmon I Will Not Leave" and "Ode to Stinkin'." Here are the opening lines from the latter: O Humpy! An eagle dropped you in the park, / a cyclist ran over you in the dark. / O beautiful salmon! Putrefied and parched / atop you a hundred tourists marched.
