The collision happened at about 6 p.m. where the railroad tracks cross Willow Station Road, not far from the Willow Trading Post, a local bar and restaurant.
Denny's family had recently purchased the car and she was still learning how to operate the clutch, troopers said. Her car stopped at the railroad crossing as the passenger train was approaching. At the last minute, the vehicle lurched forward and was struck by the train, troopers said.
Some 700 people were on the train, the troopers said. No passengers were injured.
