Homer balks as bikers plan massive 2010 rally

Link: Homer News A planned cross-continent rally of Harley-Davidson riders that will end in Homer on July Fourth with up to 1,000 bikers and thousands more supporters is frightening some at the End of the Road. "This town can't accommodate 5,000 people. It's the Fourth of July. We're full. To say that we're going to have the celebration to beat all celebrations, just let me know when you're going to do that because I'm going to leave town for a while," said council member Dennis Novak. The Hoka Key Motorcycle Challenge will start in Key West, Fla., and proceed 7,000 miles to the Kenai Peninsula. Only riders on air-cooled Harleys -- generally the noisy kind -- can participate. City Manager Walt Wrede assured council members that his staff and the Homer Chamber of Commerce were working with Hoka Key organizers to ensure the event is done safely.
