Barrow kids explore indigenous cultures in Mexico

Link: The Arctic Sounder Inupiaq students at Ilisagvik College in Barrow are learning about other indigenous cultures through the Alaskan/Mexican Indigenous Interchange program. "This program changed my life,” said 2006 participant Selma Khan of Barrow. “I used to think that we were the only ones who had to struggle for our way of life, but now I’m finding out how people all over the world have had to do the same.” Fatima Garcia, a Mexican high school senior, said that most striking to her in Arctic Alaska was the way the Inupiaq connect to the environment. "I'd like to take this back to my community to raise enthusiasm," she said.
