Link: Fairbanks Daily News-Miner An Ester resident who keeps an unlocked freezer on his porch shot and wounded a black bear that had visited the freezer three previous times. After the Tuesday shooting, the resident called a hunter to come find the bear and finish it off. The hunter killed the bear a quarter-mile from the home. "It was a beautiful bear," he said. "I've got the meat hanging in the garage and I'm going to make a rug out of the hide." Shooting this bear was legal, said a Fish and Game spokesman, though he added it might have been avoided if people in the area weren't giving bears easy access to food.
