As the prosecutor on the recent animal cruelty case, I hope you will permit this personal letter of thanks to all the people who rose up on the behalf of a once-beaten dog named Harley.
Initial thanks goes to Anchorage Animal Care and Control Officer Kennie Williams who stepped in to save this animal and all the kind people at Anchorage Animal Care and Control, including lead officer Brad Larsen and director Dr. Myra Wilson, who continued their vigilance.
Harley's survival would also not have been possible unless Friends of Pets and the American Humane Association stepped through a Second Chance Fund to pay for two required and expensive surgeries. Michelle Girault, Kateri Nelson, and Debra Schnackenberg of these organizations should be commended for their generous hearts.
Harley owes his continued good health to Dr. Michelle Diederich of Pet Emergency and Dr. Mario Townsend of VCA East. These skilled veterinarians operated on Harley during his time of need.
Numerous others in this town were prepared to stand by Harley, including Rottweiler breeder Anneliese Tschannen and animal behaviorist Melinda Patterson.
Albert Schweitzer once said, "Until man extends the circle of compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace." All the people noted in this letter must be in significant peace.
On a final personal note, I wish Harley a long life, one in which he is loved and spoiled by people with gracious hearts.
- Joan Wilson
