HEALY -- A Healy man who brutally attacked a woman at an employee housing complex early Thursday morning has been jailed on charges of assault and drug possession, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Russell Kevin Hays, 48, is accused of choking the woman, cutting her with a knife and beating her head against the wall and floor during the attack at about 12:45 a.m. at the Totem Inn, troopers said. He was also found to be in possession of a "substantial amount" of marijuana as well as drug-packaging materials and a large amount of cash, troopers said.
Troopers characterized the assault as domestic violence-related. The woman required medical attention but was not transported to a hospital, troopers said.
Hays was charged with second-, third- and fourth-degree assault and fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. He was being held Thursday at Fairbanks Correctional Center.
