Police on Thursday named the shooter in what they have called a murder-suicide at an Eagle River home earlier in the week.

Police say Susan Peterson, 63, shot and killed Laura Soliz, 48, with a rifle or shotgun sometime between the time they were last seen Monday and when their bodies were discovered by an officer conducting a welfare check at the home in the 10100 block of Caribou Street about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

A motive for the shooting remains unknown. Police say the two had been longtime roommates.

Neither woman had a criminal history in Alaska.

The investigation into the deaths is continuing.
