Fierce rowing by John Clark, Joe Bear, Scott Coon and Dan Brokaw helped the men's quad boat from the Anchorage Rowing Association to the fastest time of the day Saturday at the Moose Nugget Regatta on rain-splattered Wasilla Lake. The men's quad boat finished the 1,000-meter course in 3:34.4, edging the women's eight rowers from Anchorage Rowing, who posted a 3:39 time in their race.

The regatta, the state's biggest, attracted 92 rowers and 26 boats. The Anchorage Rowing Association dominated with 175 points. The Kenai Crewsers were second with 70, followed by Alaska Midnight Sun Rowing Association with 64, and the Cordova Rowing Club with 64.

More than two dozen of the rowers will head to the World Masters Games next month in Sydney, Australia.
