Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Composting bins for sale, $50. At the Matanuska Experiment Farm on Trunk Road in Palmer.

Saturday, Noon - 4 p.m. Harvest Day at the Alaska Botanical Garden. Activities, prizes, raffle and food drive. The first annual scarecrow contest. $5 per person / $10 per family or free with a donation of three cans of food or a bag of veggies harvested from your garden. Call 770-3692 for more info or to register for the scarecrow contest.

Saturday, Noon - 7 p.m. Fall Harvest Festival at Pyrah’s Pioneer Peak U-Pick Farm in Butte. Hayrides, games, food and entertainment. $5 each / $15 per family of four / $3 per family member after. Bodenburg Loop, Palmer.

Sunday, 2 p.m. Naturalist Dominique Collet will share his expertise of Alaska mushrooms with a short introduction to mushroom collecting techniques and etiquette followed by a 1-2 mile walk. At the Eagle River Nature Center. Feel free to bring mushrooms to identify. Free program; $5 parking for non-members.

Tuesday-Wednesday, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Workshops: Grown in Alaska; growing and keeping the “green” in Alaska. The focus will be on producing, marketing, and planting Alaska-grown trees, shrubs and perennials. At the Palmer Community Center (railroad depot.) $30/$40. Tuesday-Saturday. Any day and any time between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Volunteers needed to help organize the Alaska Botanical Garden nursery area and tool shed, inventory plants, trim perennials and mulch flower beds. Call 770-3692 for info.
