Woman charged for using double identity

Published: September 19, 2009

A 59-year-old Kenai woman has been indicted on charges of mail fraud and bankruptcy fraud. Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Feldis said the accused had two different social security numbers, one in name of Lela McGee and the other in the name of Lela Greene. The woman also had separate Alaska driver's licenses under those names.

Feldis says McGee used the two names to fraudulently obtain unemployment insurance benefits.

He adds that when McGee filed for bankruptcy in 2006, she failed to list, as required, all the names she had used in the past eight years.

If convicted, McGee could be fined a maximum of $250,000. She could also go to prison.
