Wanted: Moose and caribou antlers for giant arch

Link: Fairbanks Daily News-Miner Fairbanks officials want to build an 8-foot-wide, 12-foot-high arch of antlers at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center, and they're calling for contributions of moose and caribou racks from dozens of villages. It would be the largest antler arch in the world, says projects manager Cindy Shumaker, who guesses she needs about 100 racks to complete the arch. "The bottom line is that we need to show the public that moose racks are part of our culture," said Robert Charlie, who brought in a couple of racks. "We honor these things. It's the food on our table" he said. Shumaker added: “It’s going to be a great [tourist] photo op.”
