Juneau Boys and Girls Club closes on short notice

Link: Juneau Empire The Boys and Girls Club of Juneau is set to close after today, and others in Alaska may follow suit. Dozens of Juneau children will have to find other after-school activities. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska sent out a press release last week blaming coming closures on the loss of about $2 million in annual federal funding and the national economic downturn. The organization did not specify which clubs would close but said it was hoped the situation would be temporary. The decision to close the Juneau club with just a day's notice shocked manager Taralee Ellis. "Today is one of the hardest days of my life," she said in a letter to parents. "... We were anticipating cutbacks, but not the closure of the whole club."
