Enstar overcharge hearings set

State regulators have scheduled a hearing for 5 to 7 p.m. Monday to hear from the public on a proposal by Enstar Natural Gas Co. to raise its rates for providing natural gas to heat homes to raise money to reimburse Fort Richardson for overcharging the Army post earlier this decade.

For five years starting in 2002, Enstar erroneously charged the Fort Richardson laundry for 10 times as much gas as it actually delivered, and the Anchorage utility must repay the overcharge. The state attorney general's office filed an opposition to Enstar's proposed rate change.

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska, which oversees Enstar's rates, will hold the meeting Monday to hear from consumers at its East Hearing Room, 701 W. Eighth Ave. The next day, the commission is scheduled to hold hearing in which Enstar must present evidence in support of its request, the RCA said.
