How tsunami-ready can a town really be?

(10/02/09 13:47:16)

Link: Kodiak Daily Mirror It takes more than NOAA certification, road signs and sirens to make a community ready for a tsunami. Wednesday's deadly tsunami in Samoa highlighted the difficulty of predicting and preparing for one. Kodiak City Fire Chief Rome Kamai says news of an approaching tsunami might not get to the city in time. “Any time you feel an earthquake that lasts more than 15 seconds, you should head for high ground immediately,” he said. Kodiak has experienced five tsunamis since the Russians arrived on the island in 1790.
