Link: Homer News Russian Old Believer students on the Kenai Peninsula won't take the high school graduation exit exam in April because it will conflict with the faith's Holy Week services. The test date may be at least one student's final opportunity to pass the test and get a high school diploma on schedule. The Alaska Department of Education has rejected an appeal, saying its contract with the testing firm does not allow for early or late testing. Holy Week also conflicts with standardized testing required to document adequate yearly progress under the federal "No Child Left Behind" Act.
