Link: KCAW Sitkans on Sunday celebrated the transfer of Alaska from Russia to the U.S. there in 1867. Solemnity -- laying of a wreath in the Sitka National Cemetery -- was balanced by parades and pomp. Radio station KCAW offers an audio postcard and a few photos. Today is the official observance of the holiday, and state offices are closed.
