Before GPS: Revisiting the lighthouses of Alaska

(10/20/09 07:55:00)

Link: Ketchikan Daily News (via Juneau Empire) Alaska has had 16 major lighthouses in the past century, and each gets its due in a new exhibit at the Tongass Historical Museum in Ketchikan. Though most such lights have been made obsolete by global-positioning technology, their appeal to students of maritime history remains strong. The exhibit includes new and old photos as well as historical documents and artifacts such as the original lens from the 1904 Tree Point Lighthouse near Ketchikan. "Northern Lights: Lighthouses of Alaska" will remain on display through Nov. 15.
