FAIRBANKS - The city of Fort Yukon is back in the liquor business.State regulators allowed Fort Yukon to reopen its city-run liquor store after shutting it down Friday amid confusion over whether voters had given the city permission to hold a liquor license.
The Alcohol Beverage Control Board doesn't have a record of a public vote, and the liquor store was closed last week when Fort Yukon officials couldn't present evidence of such a vote taking place.Control board director Shirley Gifford allowed the liquor store to continue operating Wednesday. She says the city has 45 days to find evidence of a vote or hold a special election giving Fort Yukon authority to sell alcohol.
