People have trepidation about sponsoring students going out of state for college. We have a fine upper education system here. Some say that if we spend money sending our kids to the lower 48 to get smart they will stay out there and we will lose our brightest. We spend a lot of money advertising this state. Even if they stayed out there they will have family ties to Alaska. There is no better advertising for Alaska than an educated Alaskan.

Palin fails to impress
Sarah Palin has announced her support for a third party candidate in New York's 23rd House district, my district.
Perhaps she does not realize that her actions speak louder then her words and her actions speak volumes as to the the type of person she is.
She is a quitter. She has quit two government jobs, one was an important elected position. She did this with no obvious thought for the people of her state. She has done nothing for them since her resignation except increase her wealth and pontificates on subjects through Face Book. No one can question her motives or thoughts on these subjects because she does no interviews.
Well, ex Gov. Palin, thanks, but no thanks I don't want or need your opinion on this race. You do not impress me with your wisdom, actions, experience or knowledge.
Please stay in Alaska. We don't need you here to tell us how to vote or what we need.

Rest stops testify to sorry maintenance
Could you encourage your state highway department to pick it up a notch? I recently drove my elderly sister and brother-in-law from Anchorage to Fairbanks after he had some medical procedures in Anchorage. There were two major rest areas on the way.
They had to walk quite a distance to get to the facilities using thier canes, and when they got to them the facilities were locked. This was on Sept. 22, just after tourist season. Apparently they had been locked for some time as there were a lot of piles of human feces in the areas of the restrooms at both rest areas.
I realize that there are problems with vandalism in outlying areas as I have worked for a park system for ten years. However, I don't think it reasonable to lock up your restroom facilities on a major highway route. Plus the result is very unsightly, and a health hazard
