Randy John Oktollik, 26, is one of eight men charged with wanton waste and failure to salvage meat in connection with at least 37 caribou troopers say they found rotting on the tundra outside Point Hope in the summer of 2008.
At the hearing Wednesday, the prosecution and defense agreed to postpone the change of plea because one of Oktollik's lawyers has been ill and there were still a few details to work out in the plea, said Oktollik's attorney, Philip Shanahan. The defense also wanted to review several new audio records that have surfaced "out of an abundance of caution," he said.
Superior Court Judge Richard Erlich rescheduled the plea change for Nov. 17. Oktollik will be sentenced the week of Nov. 30, when the other seven men are set to go to trial in Point Hope.
