Conan apologizes to Levi; Shatner tries again

FRIDAY UPDATE Link: Entertainment Weekly Conan O'Brien last night apologized to Levi Johnston for a Wednesday "Tonight Show" skit in which actor William Shatner did a 'poetry' reading using lines from a fake Johnston Twitter page. Johnston's lawyer, Rex Butler of Anchorage, demanded a retraction, and Thursday night, after apologizing, O'Brien called Shatner back to perform legit Johnston quotes. Catch the video clip here. In an interview with local station KTVA yesterday, Johnston said he doesn't do social media online: "No. I've never had a Twitter account. I don't know Twitter. I really don't know what it is. I don't have MySpace, Facebook. Yeah, none of that stuff is me."

Link: TMZ William Shatner, who previously did a Beat-poet rendition of Sarah Palin's Twitter tweets on "The Tonight Show," last night gave the same treatment to tweets host Conan O'Brien said were Levi Johnston's but were really those of a Johnston impostor using Twitter. Johnston and his Anchorage lawyer, Rex Butler, are said to be furious over the skit -- the tweets portray Johnston as racially insensitive and a pothead -- and will be demanding a retraction from NBC. "We are in the process of dealing with Twitter first," Butler says. "I think they have an obligation once something like this happens to make some kind of corrective measure."
