More customers boost GCI profits
Anchorage telecom company GCI said its third-quarter profits totaled $4.3 million, up from $265,000 in the same three months of last year. Third-quarter revenue totaled $151 million, down 0.6 percent. "Led by increases of 7,400 wireless and 3,200 new cable-modem subscribers, consumer customer counts were up in all categories year-over-year," said Ron Duncan, president of the company that provides local, long-distance and wireless phone, cable TV and Internet services throughout Alaska. For the first nine months of this year, GCI profits reached $7.3 million, compared with $2.5 million during the January-September period of last year. Revenue was $448 million, up 5 percent.
