Cougars win Challenge

Service defeated Lathrop 2-1 Saturday to win the Peninsula Ice Challenge in Kenai. The Cougars led 2-0 late in the third period but surrendered a goal when Lathrop went on a 5-on-3 power play and pulled its goalie for a 6-on-3 advantage.

Service finished 3-0 in the round-robin tournament.

South 4, Bartlett 0

Bartlett goaltender Stephen DeBoer made 59 saves, but it wasn't enough as South earned a 4-0 victory Saturday at Ben Boeke.

South scored three power-play goals, including one during a 5-on-3 advantage, and added a shorthanded goal.

South goaltender Josh Benton stopped all four shots he faced to earn the win.

First Period -- No scoring. Penalties -- South 2 for 4. Bartlett 3 for 6.

Goalies -- South, Welch (2-1-1-4). Bartlett, DeBoer (21-17-21--59).

Colony 3, Houston 1

Luke Moma scored a pair of third-period goals to lead Colony past Houston.

Houston took a 1-0 lead in the second period on a goal by Zach Lovelace, but Colony answered with a goal from Kyle Meller.
