Anchorage resident Lori Phillips, 55, was out on bail from a March arrest for driving under the influence when she drove her white Ford SUV into the oncoming lane along the Seward Highway near Potter Marsh Thursday and collided head-on with a Toyota sedan, according to police.

The driver of the Toyota was killed; he has yet to be named because police have not been able to contact his family. The woman passenger in the sedan, Joyua Stovall, 29, was critically injured. She remained hospitalized Monday, police said.

Phillips had been previously charged with four DUIs and was out on bail on conditions including that she not drink alcohol and not drive, according to prosecutors. She was arrested Saturday on a misdemeanor charge of violating those conditions and booked into the Anchorage jail, police said.

She has not yet been charged in Thursday's crash. Police say their investigation is continuing.
