The foundation has drafted a plan for what the library can be, and it is looking to hear from library users, former users and others about how the library should be evolving, its strengths and weaknesses.

The draft's executive summary says: "The challenge that the Anchorage Public Library is facing is significant. It must maintain essential public services in the short term at the same time that it charts a course for the future. Doing so will require a willingness to re-invent how services are delivered as well as how services are funded. Working with the Municipality of Anchorage, it must determine how to weather the current economic storms in a way that does not permanently damage its capacity to serve the public in the future."
