An educational forum on employing people with disabilities is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Anchorage's Dena'ina Convention Center downtown. "Maximizing Human Potential: Employing Qualified Individuals with Disabilities," is hosted by the Alaska Workforce Investment Board and the Governor's Council on Disabilities and Special Education. Topics will include recent changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act; inexpensive job accommodations and technologies; health care, insurance and other supports for employees with disabilities; and early return-to-work strategies for ill or injured employees.
The luncheon address will be presented by Erin Riehle, head of a program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital that provides employment and education opportunities for people with significant disabilities. In addition, four Alaska employers will receive awards for their leadership in employing people with disabilities. For more information, go to www.regonline.com/business_forum.
