Palmer resident Julie LeMay is holding a fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday at Vagabond Blues to raise money for a children's school in Tibet. LeMay will present a photographic slide show of the land and its people and talk about the Jatson Chumig Welfare Special School in Lhasa, Tibet, where she has volunteered twice.
Those who attend will have a chance to win door prizes such as prayer flags, incense and handmade journals. LeMay said the school serves more than 150 orphaned, disabled and poor Tibetan children. Students range in age from pre-school to high school and a few students who have gone on to university studies.
Because of a private donation, all money raised at the Vagabond Blues event will be matched, up to $25,000. LeMay said the money goes toward food, medical, housing and education for the children, and also teachers' salaries. Read more information about the organization online at www.jatsontibet.org.
