JUNEAU -- A woman who acknowledged stealing from a Juneau Little League could be sentenced to up to five years in prison as part of a plea agreement.

Arlene K. Moe, 51, pleaded guilty Friday to embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from Gastineau Channel Little League in Juneau. She was facing up to 15 years on the original felony theft charge.

Moe, who now lives in Anchorage, served on the organization's board of directors. She admitted taking the money between August 2007 and September 2008 when she was the group's treasurer.

Moe wrote checks to herself amounting to at least $40,000, but the total could be higher. Deputy Attorney General Richard Svobodny said Moe may have taken as much as $60,000.

The league contacted the Juneau Police Department when it learned there were irregularities in the league's bookkeeping, Svobodny said.

Moe originally denied wrongdoing when confronted by police, but later admitted that she stole the money from the Little League, Svobodny said.

The plea agreement calls for Moe to pay restitution to the league after the figure is settled. Her sentencing is set for Jan. 12.
