The 33-year-old Bourgeois, who in July won Seward's Mount Marathon race for the fifth time, competed in the 33-kilometer (20.5 miles) event at the Muir Beach Race near Sausalito, Calif. It was the longest race the she had ever entered and she crushed the competition.

Bourgeois finished the course along the Pacific Coast in a time of 2 hours, 51 minutes, 48 seconds. Her nearest competitor, Erica Namba, crossed the finish line more than 45 minutes later. Bourgeois' time was eight minutes faster than the course record that had stood for 11 years. The hilly course from Muir Beach featured a total elevation gain of 4,390 feet.

Seward's Sam Young ran in the 17-K race at Muir Beach. The 55-year-old finished second overall and first in his age group.

Young finished in 1:28:08. He was just 20 seconds off the pace set by 31-year-old Nick Ohler.
