PALMER -- A Glennallen man died in an accident Monday night after he drove off the shoulder of the Glenn Highway near Sheep Mountain Lodge, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Robert Lyons, 54, was northbound in a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder with passenger Dorothy Lyons, also 54, troopers said.

Just past Mile 112, Lyons veered off the northbound shoulder, struck the end of the guardrail, and rolled down an embankment and across a creek, where the Pathfinder came to a stop, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said. The troopers responded at 7:45 p.m. Monday.

Robert Lyons was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. Dorothy Lyons was transported to Alaska Native Medical Center. She was in stable condition Tuesday.

Investigators don't suspect alcohol was involved but will run toxicology tests as a matter of course, Peters said. She didn't know what road conditions were at the time of the accident.
