Power restored in Palmer after weather-caused outage

PALMER -- Windblown debris knocked out power to about 2,000 people in Palmer, including three schools, around 5 a.m. today but the power was restored by midday.

However, the power is out for a couple hundred people north of Sutton, said Matanuska Electric Association spokeswoman Lorali Carter. And fewer than a hundred people are amid an outage in the Petersville Road area, she said.

Carter blamed the mix of rain, ice, sleet and gusty winds pummeling the Matanuska Valley.

The Palmer outage included Sherrod and Swanson elementary schools, as well as Academy Charter School.
