An Anchorage jury has convicted a 37-year-old man of second-degree murder in the shooting death of a friend six years ago.
Anchorage District Attorney Adrienne Bachman says the jury deliberated six hours Friday and convicted Derrick Wren of killing Adam Calderon.
Wren, on Sept. 10, 2003, had just been released from jail after his second felony drunken driving arrest.
He was drinking heavily, and after being told that he was too drunk and embarrassing, he picked up a gun and pointed it at Calderon.
Bachman says that when Calderon told Wren to put the gun away, and that he was not going to shoot anyone, Wren fired, hitting Calderon three times.
He faces a sentence of 10 to 99 for second-degree murder.
