Troopers responded to the area near Shepherd's Island about 11:35 a.m. Sunday, when they learned two Polaris Indy trail snowmachines traveling in opposing directions collided.

On one was driven by Anchorage resident Jered Lowe, 21, with his sister, Jurnee Lowe, 8, sitting in front of him, troopers said. The other was driven by Tim Reading, 44, of Anchorage.

Jurnee and Reading were both taken to Mat-Su Regional Hospital for treatment, though the girl was flown there.

A troopers spokeswoman said investigators did not know the extent of her injuries.
