KYES-TV Channel 5 recently announced the hiring of Jeff Glaser as general manager/general sales manager for the station. He will assume day-to-day responsibility for overall operation of KYES, the MyNetwork TV affiliate for Southcentral Alaska. Glaser worked in advertising sales for both the ABC and NBC affiliates here in Anchorage. He joined FOX in 1997 as sales manager and became the general manager a year later. Carol Schatz has served as KYES' general manager since it first began broadcasting nearly 20 years ago. She will remain as chief financial officer and continue to oversee programming and other business functions.

KPMG LLP, an audit, tax and advisory firm, announced that Elizabeth M. Stuart of KPMG's Anchorage office, has been admitted into the partnership of the firm. Stuart provides audit services to KPMG clients in the Anchorage area. She has experience serving Alaska Native corporations and clients in the health care, construction and services contracting, real estate, non-profit, energy, and telecommunications industries. Stuart joined KPMG in 1994. Stuart earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from the University of Alaska, Anchorage.

The Anchorage Economic Development Corp. has announced the election of new officers for the 2010 board of directors: Lon Wilson of the Wilson Agency was elected elected chair; Chris Brown of AT&T Alascom was elected as vice chair and Greg Pearce of GCI will hold the position of secretary/treasurer. Wilson is the president of the Wilson Agency and currently serves on Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield's advisory board. He is former president of the Alaska Association of Health Underwriters.

The University of Alaska Anchorage has announced the hiring of John R. Faunce, P.E. as the director of facilities planning and construction. Faunce has 40 years of engineering experience with more than 30 years as a uniformed officer in the Navy Civil Engineering Corps. For the past 10 years, he worked with an international engineering firm as the lead for construction and project management services for the recently completed reconstruction and renovation of the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

Alexandra Brown has moved to Alternative Health Clinic in Spenard to serve as lead massage therapist. Alternative Health Clinic specializes in therapeutic massage, craniosacral therapy, and visceral manipulation. A native Alaskan, Brown was formerly with Undo Stress, and graduated from the Alaska Learning Institute.

Anchorage police officer Doug Fifer was recently selected as one of the "Native American 40 under 40" recipients by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. NCAIED is a national organization dedicated to developing Native American economic self-sufficiency through business ownership. Fifer has been a police officer with the Anchorage Police Department for 14 years. Fifer also owns a small business, WineStyles, which opened in 2007 in South Anchorage. In its first month of operation, WineStyles finished 17th in the nation out of nearly 200 stores.

The Alaska Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America has elected officers and board members for 2010. They are: Nance Larsen, APR, Fellow PRSA, The Pebble Partnership, president; Emily Ford, Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, president-elect; David Kennedy, Wells Fargo, secretary; Kirsten Schultz, Providence Health & Services Alaska, treasurer. Elected to two-year terms were Meadow Bailey, Alaska State Department of Transportation; Gary Scott, Thompson & Co.; and Stacy Schubert, Municipality of Anchorage. Elected to one-year terms were Scott McCrea, University of Alaska Fairbanks and Heather Cavanaugh, Alaska Communications Systems. Also serving on the board for 2010 is Amy Burnett, past president, of ConocoPhillips Alaska, and Sherrie Simmonds, Alaska Housing Finance Corp., who was elected to serve a three-year term as an Assembly Delegate.

The Northern Lights Alaska Chapter of the American Payroll Association congratulates Toni Prockish, who is presently a payroll supervisor for the Municipality of Anchorage, for earning her Certified Payroll Professional Certification from the American Payroll Association. Since graduating from college, she has been a staff accountant with T.E. Dewhirst & Co., a payroll accountant for the Anchorage School District, a tax accountant for the Chugach Alaska Corporation, and a senior payroll accountant with the Municipality of Anchorage.
