The Alaska Wild hope to capture some of that magic when Carrie makes his Wild debut Feb. 28 against Fairbanks.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Carrie and defensive backs Jameel Brady and Brandon Matthews are new commitments to the Wild, and defensive back James Griffin is returning to the lineup after spending last year in Corpus Christi.
During his senior season at Alcorn State in 2004, Carrie led the Southwest Athletic Conference in passing yards. He finished his college career with 10,348 passing yards and 77 touchdowns, placing him second on the school's all-time list behind Steve McNair.
He has played indoor football for Laredo, Central Texas and San Angelo.
"He's unbelievable," San Angelo receiver J.T. Perry told the San Angelo Standard-Times after catching three Carrie touchdown passes in the victory over Katy. "He knows the game, he's smart, just a phenomenal quarterback. He's going places. He's got talent."
Brady played for four years at the University of Pittsburgh, starting his final two seasons. He had five interceptions as a junior and helped lead the team to an 11-1 record during his senior season in 2006.
Matthews is the son of new Wild owner Charles Matthews. He has previously played for the Fairbanks Grizzlies and for the Baltimore Bay Atlantic Sharks. He had 14 interceptions in two seasons with the Sharks, helping lead the team to the 2007 league title.
Griffin played for the Wild in 2008 and had 14 interceptions. Last year he had 35 solo tackles and four picks for Corpus Christi.
The Wild will have a local tryout on Jan. 24 at Sullivan Arena.
